Martin Eagle

Martin Eagle is me, the guy writing this page and who put this website together.

2004 was my first visit to Myanmar and it was on that 10-day trip when I realised I wanted to return as a full-time missionary. Since then I’ve been back many times on short-term visits to teach English, Evangelism, and Bible books.

In June 2010 I finished my Associate Degree of Theology at Sydney Missionary and Bible College (SMBC) and, after a few more months of further preparation and final deputation, I am now situated in Yangon, Myanmar, as a full-time missionary.

After learning the language for 12 months the plan is to be part of the teaching ministry at ERC and RBI, as well as coordinating evangelism efforts. We (Mission Partners, ERC, and me) are also considering setting up an English school for people within our area. The curriculum for the school will be Bible-based so every lesson will be evangelistic. Time and people-resources are too low to begin this yet, but our thoughts are to start with 1 day of classes, including a class in the evening which will have a more relaxed atmosphere. We’ll probably turn the classroom into a cafĂ© style so it feels less like formalised learning. Our plan is that these evening lessons will be at no cost to the students and will be more like a Bible Study or Discussion Group where interaction in English is encouraged and nurtured. It’s not expected that this will begin within my first 3 year term, but hopefully in the second and subsequent terms.

In the meantime, I will be able to assist the Bible College students from RBI and GBS with their English, perhaps 1 or 2 afternoons a week as part of their first year’s curriculum.

More history and information on how this all came about can be found on the Martin and Myanmar page.

Other Workers

There are many other workers involved both in Australia and in Myanmar. You can find details of ERC and RBI workers here, and FRCM and GBS workers here.

There have been numerous short-term mission trips made by ministers and lay folk from Australia, too many to name. Each year some return and some new faces appear. Their visits and work are an enormous encouragement to the churches here, and the training they’re able to provide in the few short weeks in country has a lasting impact on many Christians, both in Yangon and in rural Chin State, where those trained return to pass on what they’ve learnt.

In Australia…

Mission Partners - the Australian Presbyterian World MissionMission Partners:

  • Rev Kevin Murray – National Director
  • The office staff and volunteers at the national office
  • The entire national and state committees, too many to name

A special mention must go to the previous National Director, Rev Bill Lutton (served 2001-2011) and his wife and head-office super-heroine, Jenny. The partnership in Myanmar would not be as strong as it is without their tireless and compassionate efforts. Bless you guys!
