——

* A Christian by birth means born within a Christian family. The parents are both believers and have brought up their child in Christian worship, doctrines, and theology ever since childhood.

The significance of mentioning it is firstly to respect the way that FRCM chooses to present their leaders. The pages throughout this site with information about the partner churches have been put together from their own writings. Occasionally they use phrases that are strange to us, like this one about being a Christian from birth, but I chose to leave that in the statements because that’s how they’d like to be presented. Secondly, I believe this concept of Christian heritage seems very important to them, and they’re keen to show that they are well established in their Christianity and not simply a new wave of believers. For them, this Christian genealogy adds credibility to their work and ministry and declares the historically strong nature of Christianity within their native tribes. Finally, this typical statement of “Christian from birth” is only common with those associated with FRCM, which indicates that it is perhaps more of a tradition from the northern tribes of Chin State (FRCM churches), rather than those from southern tribes (ERC churches).
