This page details Thang Bwee’s family, history, and ministry.
———
Rev Dr Thang Bwee is the leader and founder of the Evangelical Reformed Church (ERC) and the Reformed Bible Institute (RBI) since the early 1990s. In total he has been in full-time ministry for 27 years, both in pastoral ministry and teaching in Bible schools.
His wife is Nelly and they have three children, Eli Sandy (b.1987), Benjamin (b.1993), and Vesta (b.1998). Sandy and Benjamin, among other things, have learnt computer skills, and Vesta, still in school is learning piano and English. Benjamin recently finished his university entrance test and is seeking opportunity, God willing, to continue his education abroad.
Rev. Dr Thang Bwee is fully engaging with various works of ministry, both for the ERC and RBI, and works long hours in the church office, often from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM, and sometimes much later. When not in the office he is teaching in RBI and on mission trips to other parts of Myanmar.
Mostly he manages the ministry of ERC, arranging, preparing training materials and courses, and the translation of Reformed booklets and articles to use in teaching and preaching. These he shares and distributes to his fellow workers in different churches of ERC as well as other RBI lecturers.
When he’s not busy with those activities he can be found working to supply food for his family and students at his rice fields and farm. Otherwise he prepares for teaching trips to Chin State in western Myanmar. He will make the long and difficult journey, which takes about 5 days with much of it done on foot, at least once a year. When in Chin State he will gather the pastors from his many Church plants and train them in the Bible. These training events can take about 3 weeks, after which Thang Bwee will visit many people in the region before make the long journey back to his home in Yangon.
Since 2008 he has been committed to the plight of starving people in Chin State. He has visited the affected region to observe the conditions there and found many people begging for food. Rice has been delivered to them many times now. Those affected by this famine will need continued care and support for at least another 2 years until the crops recover. He has also been involved in ministering to those in the cyclone affected zone (as a result of the May 2008 cyclone). He has been involved in the planting of many churches (nearly 30 church-plants up to 2008) and he is also responsible for these and any urgent needs of the people in these Churches.
He is in need of faithful and qualified assistants in ministry and has therefore sent some of his graduates from RBI abroad to India and the United States for their further studies. They will return and assist with future ERC and RBI ministries.
He shares that “the Reformed Bible Institute is in great need of help in every aspect, such as visiting lecturers, prayer, resources like books, as well as financial assistance.” As the leader he feels very responsible for all these kinds of things. Please be sure to remember him in your prayers.
